Today starts day 1 in the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge. I was super excited and a bit freaked out when the approved me as a guest participant for this year. I really didn't think my application would get accepted so of course I pick our master bedroom as the feature. Well ta-da...they picked me so no turning back now. As with all projects, I like to start with a mood board. This is usually a collaboration of inspiration pics of other rooms, items I hope to use in the room and other items that I have already to use. So as you can see below, I've stuck to my signature blue & white color palette. I wanted to room to feel calm, cozy & dreamy. A place that we could retreat to each night and rest peacefully. I swear neither of have slept well in this room because it's been in disarray since day 1. I only found dressers to re-do for this room a few months ago so everything has been in baskets and boxes since April of last year. That all changes starting today! The team at the One Room Challenge asked us to be very creative with our projects due to the current circumstances. Most states have stay-at-home orders (ours is one of them) so the goal was to try and complete this room with stuff we had on hand or that we could get with very minimal shopping. This way we are all staying safe during this process. So my design started with digging in my fabric finds. I was inspired by some vintage fabric that I had bought while thrifting BC (before covid). I found my favorite blue stripe grainsack that I'm going to turn into a body pillow and soft ivory applique quilt that I'm making into euro pillow covers. I also realized I had leftover beadboard wallpaper which has popped up in various spots in the cottage and that was the jumping off point. As you can see, there is nothing super great about this room. But it does have it's challenges. The window above the bed is off center, the closet was added at a later date and takes up most of the room, 3 of the 4 walls have baseboard heating which makes the room smaller when you add in furniture to name a few. But the goal is to overcome these challenges and create a beautiful oasis for me and my husband to enjoy!
So our week 1 will be about tackling the walls! We will be doing a feature wall to distract from the off center window and then all the walls, trim & ceiling will get painted. You can follow me on Instagram to see our progress and tune in here to see more of the behind the scenes and resources. Thanks so much for following along! xo- Jenna
